US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden received our Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday 21st June 2023, at the White House, as per The Times of India. According to the White House, the three of them got together for a private dinner party at their home where they also took in a musical homage to the country’s many regions. From New York, Modi travelled to Washington, where he presided over a historic celebration of the International Day of Yoga earlier on Wednesday at the UN Headquarters, which was attended by diplomats, celebrities, and UN officials.

PM thanked the duo and praised their cordial welcome and arrangements made for him. He also shared with the media later that he enjoyed a great evening and had great conversations there on several subjects. He led Yoga celebrations at the UN Headquarters creating a Guinness World Record for the participation of people of most nationalities. The Pm exchanged special gifts with the President during his state visit. The intimate dinner presented by Biden and First Lady featured the president’s favourite items including the pasta and the ice cream. As our PM’s special choice, he was offered plant-based courses of millet, stiffed mushrooms and lots more from the Indian delicacy menu. They were joined by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and his counterpart Ajit Doval at the White House too, as per the reports.

The White House also said as the official gift, the president and First Lady presented Modi with a handsome, antique American book gallery from the early 20th century. Additionally, Modi was also welcomed and greeted by a special vintage gift of an American camera, accompanied by an archival facsimile print of George Eastman’s Patent of the a hardback book on American wildlife photography, as well as the first Kodak camera. In return, our PM gifted a lab-grown 7.5-carat green diamond to US First Lady Dr Jill Biden. The diamond reflects earth-mined diamond’s chemical and optical properties. It also is eco-friendly, as eco-diversified resources like solar and wind power were used in its making.

The Bidens were again gifted a special sandalwood box handcrafted by a master craftsman from Jaipur, Rajasthan. The sandalwood has been sourced from Mysore, Karnataka and has intricately carved flora and fauna patterns. The box contains the idol of Lord Ganesha of silver, handcrafted by a craftsman from Kolkata. There is a diya (oil lamp) also handcrafted and placed beside the idol by the same craftsman family of Kolkata.

His meet with the Bidens on the second day of his New York visit was then followed by his departure to participate in a background briefing conducted by the assistant secretary of state from South and Central Asia, Donald Lu. Later, he was said to take part in a cultural event at Freedom Plaza before flying to Virginia from Joint Base Andrews in Washington DC.

The visit and dinner affirmed the deep and close partnership between the United States and India and also tightened the warm bonds of family and friendship that link Americans and Indians together. Following this, the Prime Minister and the President will have a private discussion in the White House’s Oval Office before undertaking high-level negotiations to strengthen the developing Indo-US strategic cooperation in key national domains including space, defence, vital technologies, and renewable energy. The trip from June 21 to 24 is going to act as leverage that will eventually generate an indispensable partnership for American tech ambitions in close accordance with India. Before the family dinner, PM Modi was specially acknowledged to speak in front of the legislature.
