I have specialized in pregnancy care, gynecological issues, and gynecological laparoscopic and robotic surgeries. I am passionate about teaching in my field too and I am working as Associate Professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Navodaya Medical College, Raichur. My work expertise also focuses on menopausal care which is often ignored in India.
Prime Insights: What inspired you to pursue obstetrics and gynecology, and how has your professional journey shaped your expertise?
I come from a middle class family, as a child I have always witnessed a huge critical care gap towards the underprivileged females in India right from their adolescence till old age during postmenopausal state. As an obstetrician I am dealing with childbirth, managing two lives at same time, it poses a high impact medical challenge. This specialty demands surgical skill and continuous medical care for a woman which indirectly extends to his family. Post MBBS during internship period I got fascinated with pregnancy care, further from RIMS Ranchi, which is the most renowned medical college and hospital in the state of Jharkhand, I pursued my MD (Masters in Obstetrics and gynecology). Being an apex hospital of the state I got exposed to a huge number of patients. Getting a post graduate degree from such a reputed institute is one of the major milestones in my life. Further I honed my skills and laparoscopic and robotic surgeries working at Manipal hospital Bangalore and world laparoscopy hospital Delhi. At every point unique experiences and learnings moulded me to a better surgeon.
Prime Insights: How do you define compassionate and patient-centered care in modern gynecology?
Compassionate and patient-centered care in modern gynecology focuses on treating the whole woman rather than just a set of symptoms. It pairs medical expertise with active listening, shared decision-making, and deep respect towards a patient’s emotional comfort, cultural background, her family, her partner and personal autonomy. I strongly believe acknowledging the whole person’s perspective with her background is most important alongside physical diagnostics.
Prime Insights: What are some of the common gynecological and obstetric concerns you address, and how do you approach patient care?
I believe obstetric and gynaecology are two sides of the same coin, which demands art and science. Common issues from these two fields are pregnancy care, anemia during pregnancy, menstrual disorder, pelvic pain, infection, PCOS, post-menopausal problems and last but not least is cancer. I always believe in a patient centric approach and personalized care which suits the woman at her life stage considering her background.
Prime Insights: How do you ensure that patients receive personalised and informed treatment?
To ensure a personalised and informed treatment for all my patients. I involve the patient and her family in active shared decision-making, I ensure comprehensive patient history, I establish a clear communication of risks of a treatment and alternative treatment options, and I align medical plans with individual lifestyle and reproductive goals.
Prime Insights: How have advanced medical technologies and minimally invasive procedures transformed gynecology?
Advanced medical technologies and minimally invasive procedures like Robotic surgeries and Laparoscopic surgeries have transformed gynecology by replacing conventional large open incisions with precise, keyhole, or natural-orifice techniques. These advancements lead to significantly reduced blood loss, lower infection rates, shorter hospital stays, and faster returns to normal daily.
Prime Insights: How do you continue to stay updated with the latest developments in gynecology?
I believe learning is a continuous process one should never reach a plateau no matter at what age he or she reaches. I still follow internationally acclaimed peer reviewed journals, major international colleges updates, utilize digital literature, participate in continuous medical education (CME) webinars and global conferences. I am a passionate teacher for post graduate students in gynaecology and teaching itself enriches my knowledge.
Prime Insights: What has been one of the most memorable experiences of your medical career?
Every time we deal with a near-death case and manage to save the patient, it’s an experience that stays with us forever. It’s always memorable.
Prime Insights: Why are preventive healthcare and regular screenings important for women?
Preventive health care and regular screenings allow women to catch silent conditions such as cervical cancer, breast cancer, hypertension, and diabetes early, when they are most treatable. These routine checks lower long-term health risks, improve overall quality of life, and reduce future medical costs. E.g. Clinical examination and regular mammograms can save thousands of lives from breast cancer.
Prime Insights: How do you contribute to creating awareness about women’s health in the wider community?
As a passion I usually conduct community seminars, school talks, and social media campaigns to teach women about menstrual hygiene, safe pregnancy, and healthy living. In my clinics I keep clear, easy-to-read pamphlets in the waiting room e.g about Pap smears and vaccinations, pregnancy diet and post menopausal care. Social media has a wide reach and answers women’s problems.
Prime Insights: What are some of the major challenges women face in accessing quality gynecological care?
Women face major hurdles in accessing quality gynecological care, including deep social stigmas, a lack of specialists in rural areas, and high costs. Cultural taboos around menstruation and sexual health cause women to delay in seeking help. I feel comprehensive reproductive health education should be given in schools to break taboos early. Expertise should be available in rural area, subsidized infrastructure should be available for management.
Prime Insights: What recognition have you received for your contribution to the field?
Recently in recognition of my work in my field I have been honored with by VIJAY KARANATAKA (Times of India) an award “VK Health Excellence and Honor” 2026.
Prime Insights: How do you balance your professional responsibilities with family life?
I am a mother of two kids. Yes it’s a very difficult task for any woman to balance a work and family life. My family continues to be my strength. At times I need to set a firm boundary with smart time management between my work and personal life to give justice to each, but patient care becomes my foremost duty.
Prime Insights: What advice would you give to young doctors aspiring to build a successful career in gynecology?
To build a successful career in gynecology, young doctors must master core surgical and clinical skills, seek good mentors, learn how to handle emergencies and stay updated with recent science. Towards patient care, I would advise budding gynaecologists, to listen to patients with care, show deep empathy towards them, establish clear dialogue and earn trust that is going to last long.
Prime Insights: What message would you like to share with women about prioritising their health?
I would say “A stitch in a time saves nine”. This still holds true about health. Every woman is a pillar in her family. So I would urge, prioritize yourself by scheduling routine screenings, listening to subtle body signals, and embracing early detection by meeting your gynecologist routinely. “Healthy women, Healthy world”
