Dr. Kaynat Gilani | Designer Dental
Did you know that many people visit the dentist only when a toothache becomes impossible to ignore? This simple habit highlights one of dentistry’s biggest challenges—and why modern dental care is increasingly shifting from emergency treatment to prevention, early diagnosis, and personalized care.
Dentistry is evolving rapidly, driven by advancements in digital technology, minimally invasive techniques, implantology, aesthetic procedures, and growing awareness of the connection between oral and overall health. As patients become more informed and expectations rise, dental practices face increasing competition to deliver not only exceptional clinical outcomes but also personalized experiences, transparency, comfort, and long-term care. In this dynamic landscape, true excellence lies in combining clinical expertise with technology, ethics, empathy, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Among the professionals contributing to this transformation is Dr. Kaynat Gilani, a Prosthodontist and Implantologist with 16 years of experience and the founder of Designer Dental, her own practice, which she has successfully led for seven years. Her expertise spans prosthodontics, implant dentistry, full-mouth rehabilitation, and aesthetic dentistry. An Associate Fellow in Laser Dentistry from WCLI, USA, Dr. Gilani has further strengthened her expertise through international training, including advanced programs in dental veneers in Dubai and full-mouth rehabilitation and TMD at NYU. Her journey from clinician to entrepreneur and practice leader reflects a philosophy rooted in integrity, lifelong learning, precision, and genuine patient care. For her, building a successful dental practice means creating a culture where clinical excellence and patient trust remain at the heart of every decision.
At Designer Dental, this philosophy translates into personalized, evidence-based treatment supported by advanced dental technology. Digital dentistry, advanced imaging, digital smile planning, precise implant planning, laser dentistry, and contemporary restorative and aesthetic techniques enable greater accuracy, predictability, and comfort. Alongside technology, Dr. Gilani emphasizes listening to patients, understanding their concerns and expectations, educating them about their options, and encouraging preventive care and early diagnosis. Prime Insights: For the benefit of our readers, could you introduce yourself and your specialization in dentistry?
I am Dr. Kaynat Gilani, a Prosthodontist and Implantologist with 16 years of experience in dentistry. I currently practice at Designer Dental, my own practice of seven years. My clinical focus includes prosthodontics, implant dentistry, full-mouth rehabilitation and aesthetic dentistry. I am also an Associate Fellow in Laser Dentistry from WCLI, USA.
Prime Insights: What inspired you to pursue a career in dentistry, and how has your journey evolved over time?
Dentistry appealed to me because it beautifully combines science, precision, artistry and the opportunity to genuinely transform someone’s quality of life. Over 16 years, my journey has evolved from being a clinician to building my own practice and continuously expanding my expertise. Every patient and every new learning experience has shaped the dentist I am today.
Prime Insights: How do you define excellence in dental care in today’s evolving healthcare landscape?
For me, excellence in dentistry goes far beyond technical perfection. It means understanding the individual behind every smile, making ethical decisions, using evidence-based techniques and delivering treatment with precision and empathy. True excellence is when clinical expertise, technology, aesthetics and compassion come together to create a result that is healthy, functional, natural and sustainable.
Prime Insights: What are the most common oral health challenges you see among patients today?
One of the most common challenges I see is delayed dental care. Patients often seek treatment only when discomfort or aesthetic concerns become significant. Caries, gum disease, tooth wear, missing teeth and functional problems are also common. Increasing awareness is important because early diagnosis and timely intervention can prevent complex problems later.
Prime Insights: How do you ensure patient comfort, trust, and personalized care in your practice?
Trust begins with listening. I take time to understand a patient’s concerns, expectations, fears and priorities before recommending treatment. I believe patients should be fully informed about their options and involved in their treatment decisions. My approach is based on empathy, transparency and meticulous planning, so every patient feels heard, respected and confident in their care.
Prime Insights: What advancements in dental technology or techniques have most transformed your practice?
Digital dentistry, advanced imaging, digital smile planning, implant planning and modern restorative techniques have significantly transformed the way I practice. They allow greater predictability and precision while improving communication with patients and the dental team. I also value laser dentistry and contemporary aesthetic techniques because they continue to expand the possibilities of comfortable, minimally invasive and highly precise treatment.
Prime Insights: How do you stay updated with global innovations and continuous medical education in dentistry?
I believe dentistry is a profession of lifelong learning. I actively invest in advanced training and international continuing education to stay connected with evolving techniques and global standards. I trained in Dubai with Dr. Galip Gürel in dental veneers in 2025 and at NYU with Dr. Lukas Lassman in full-mouth rehabilitation and TMD. These experiences continually refine my clinical approach.
Prime Insights: Could you highlight any complex or memorable cases that significantly impacted your professional journey?
Full-mouth rehabilitation and complex implant cases have been particularly meaningful to me because they require much more than restoring teeth—they require restoring function, confidence and quality of life. Treating patients from different parts of the world, including well-known personalities, has also taught me the importance of maintaining the same level of discretion, precision and commitment with every patient.
Prime Insights: What role does preventive dentistry play in improving long-term oral health outcomes?
Preventive dentistry is the foundation of long-term oral health. The best treatment is often the treatment we can prevent from becoming necessary. Regular examinations, professional maintenance, good oral hygiene, dietary awareness and early intervention can significantly reduce the progression of dental disease. I encourage my patients to view dentistry as an ongoing partnership rather than something they seek only during an emergency.
Prime Insights: How do you educate patients about oral hygiene and the importance of early diagnosis?
I believe education should be simple, practical and personalized. Rather than overwhelming patients with information, I explain what I see clinically, why it matters and what can happen if it is ignored. Visual explanations and discussions about their individual oral condition often make patients more receptive. My goal is to help patients become active participants in maintaining their oral health.
Prime Insights: What challenges have you faced as a woman in dentistry, and how have you overcome them?
Like any demanding profession, dentistry requires resilience, consistency and the ability to continually prove yourself through your work. As a woman, balancing clinical responsibilities, practice management and personal commitments has required discipline and perseverance. I have learned not to let challenges define me. Staying focused on my standards, continuing to learn and remaining genuine have helped me build confidence and credibility over time.
Prime Insights: How do you balance clinical excellence with managing a successful practice or clinic?
I believe a successful practice must be built on clinical integrity first. Managing a practice requires attention to people, systems, communication and details, but none of these should compromise patient care. I remain closely involved in clinical decision-making while ensuring that the practice maintains high standards of professionalism and patient experience. For me, consistency is what turns excellence into a culture.
Prime Insights: What milestones or achievements best reflect your contribution to dental healthcare?
My 16-year journey in dentistry and the opportunity to build and lead my own practice for the past seven years are milestones I value deeply. My advanced international training, including programs in the USA and Dubai, has strengthened my clinical expertise. Most importantly, the trust of patients from India and different parts of the world remains one of my greatest professional achievements.
Prime Insights: What advice would you give to young women aspiring to build a career in dentistry?
My strongest advice is to remember that hard work and ethics are the foundation of a lasting career. Be genuine in whatever you do, never compromise your principles and keep learning. Dentistry evolves constantly, so stay curious and humble. Success may take time, but if your work is honest, consistent and driven by genuine care, recognition will follow.
Prime Insights: Finally, what message would you like to share with readers about oral health awareness and the future of dentistry in India?
health should be regarded as an essential part of overall health, not simply as an aesthetic concern. I hope we see greater awareness, earlier diagnosis and more preventive care in India. The future of dentistry is incredibly promising, with technology and innovation creating new possibilities. However, technology will always need to be guided by ethics, empathy and sound clinical judgment. As dentists, we have a responsibility to use our knowledge to serve people in the best possible manner. I also believe in giving back whenever possible and using my time and expertise to help those who are in need.
