Prime Insights: Give a brief overview of your background as an entrepreneur.
My journey began by selling typewriters and desktop PCs during college days, evolving into managing antivirus software sales across India by 1992. The distribution sector captured my interest, fuelled by travel and building partnerships across the nation. In 1996, I ventured into entrepreneurship. Despite a break from 2010 to 2015, I returned to entrepreneurship in 2016, drawn by a love for travel, networking, and exploring new markets—a passion driving my involvement in the distribution industry.
Prime Insights: How do you diversify your organization’s offerings to appeal to the target audience?
We analyze customer needs, market trends, and competition to diversify our offerings. New premium security solutions are rolled out based on insights. Leveraging tech and customer feedback, we expand into new markets, tailoring marketing messages for each segment.
Prime Insights: Describe some of the vital attributes that every entrepreneur should possess.
Every entrepreneur should possess resilience to overcome challenges, creativity to innovate, adaptability to navigate market changes, and strong leadership to inspire teams. They need strategic thinking for long-term planning, financial acumen for managing resources, effective communication skills, and a passion for their vision to drive sustained success. I would say that the must-have ability is to stay focused on the goals set from time to time.
Prime Insights: What were the past experiences, achievements, or lessons that have shaped your journey?
There have been many memorable moments in personal and professional life. Each moment is a treasure. “What started out as one of the most challenging years, both personally and professionally, has ended in one of the most successful periods in our company’s history.” A remarkable moment was when I bought my first office space for BD Soft. It was a long-cherished dream to have your own office, and it was fulfilled. We also have our yearly outing with all staff, which has been extremely enjoyable. Most of my teammates have been with us for a long time, and seeing them grow professionally and take on responsibilities is also a proud moment for the management. We started in 2016, in 2017, there was demonetization, and the market became slow, which was followed soon in 2018 by the implementation of GST, and again, markets were slow due to various corrections, software implementation, etc. We got to work full of 2019, but then the pandemic came along for the next 2 years. We learned to have patience and look for opportunities during such times, and we succeeded. So to have patience, to stay focused, and to keep moving are the lessons that will help in every journey.
Prime Insights: How do you strategize your game plans to tackle competition in the market?
Competitor analysis and market gaps guide our strategy. We focus on continuous improvement, exceptional service, and upgrades. Data drives decisions, agility ensures adaptation, and teamwork keeps us ahead. Strong partnerships and fulfilled commitments are our competitive edge.
Prime Insights: How have you kept a balance between your personal life and your professional one?
I maintain balance by setting clear boundaries, prioritizing tasks, and managing time efficiently. Regular workouts, mindfulness practices, and quality time with family and friends keep me grounded. Delegating work and leveraging technology help streamline professional tasks, ensuring I dedicate time to both personal well-being and career growth. I love to travel and make sure to do that 2-3 times a year.
Prime Insights: Being an entrepreneur, is your story of struggle any different from others?
My entrepreneurial journey, like others, involves overcoming challenges and setbacks. Unique to my story are the specific industry hurdles and personal sacrifices made. Emphasizing resilience, innovation, and continuous learning, I navigated market shifts and competition, transforming struggles into growth opportunities and shaping my distinct path to success.
Prime Insights: How do you keep up with the changing market trends?
I stay ahead of market trends by continuously monitoring industry news, attending conferences, and engaging in professional networks. Regularly analyzing competitor strategies, seeking customer feedback, and embracing new technologies also help. Lifelong learning through developments and seminars ensures I remain adaptable and informed, driving innovation and strategic decisions. Follow industry leaders, and keep checking what they are doing and creating.
Prime Insights: What were the primary challenges and roadblocks you faced during the initial phase of your career as an entrepreneur?
The entrepreneurial journey in India is nothing less than an adventure. First, convince your family, then convince yourself that you can do it, and then open a company, etc. If you reach here, you have won some part of the battle. Every step is a challenge. Whether you need to arrange finance or get the right people on board, get the product mix, and select the right market and strategy, I have faced all the above. The start was dynamic, and the graph started going up straight only to come down faster. By fighting on multiple fronts, you learn about your own hidden talents and strengths. After running up and down for 15 years, I decided to close my first entrepreneurial journey and take a break. I gave myself a few years to understand the past journey and what could have been better before I started again in 2016. This time better equipped with the learning and the solid experience. My entrepreneurial journey is nothing short of a roller coaster ride, but life is not always fair, and you should have fun on this ride.
Prime Insights: What message do you want to give to those entrepreneurs who give up on their dreams because of some stereotypes?
You cannot have a vision without a mission, and you cannot reach your vision if there are no core values. We have a vision, and with our values, we are on a mission. Stay focused. Don’t think of giving up at any time. Always tell your brain and heart that you are going to win it, and you are winning. In business, there will never be a straight line, and you need to enjoy the journey of ups and downs. Wait for your time to come, and when it comes, just dance with it.
Prime Insights: Where do you see yourself in the near future, and what are your future goals?
I am enjoying my second stint as an entrepreneur, and I am going to enjoy it for some more time. I am doing a lot of travel too, which is my hobby and keeps me motivated. I have good plans for BD Software, and I am trying to steer it in the right direction and keep it focused. We are on a mission to keep India safe from cyber threats, and we will continue doing so.

Budding entrepreneurs, listen up! Passion and a clear vision are your launchpads. Resilience is key, so find mentors and validate your ideas. Embrace innovation, build a strong team, and prioritize balance. Learn from failures, celebrate wins, and always act with integrity. Relationships are your secret weapon!
