Solar New Year Sparkle: Infusing Energy into Your Goals and Dreams

As per the Gregorian calendar, the New Year is celebrated on the first of January around the world, but according to Hindu traditions, the Hindu New Year starts in the month of Chaitra, which usually falls between the months of March and April of the Gregorian calendar. The calendar denotes the sun’s completion of a circle from the zodiac sign Aries to Pisces. So, the Solar New Year is celebrated when the sun enters the zodiac sign Aries, also known as Mesha Rashi.

This event is called Mesha Sankranti. India, being a country with vast diversity, celebrates various cultures and various forms of Mesha Sankranti. This Sankranti is known by various names, like Bihu in Assam, Pana Sankranti in Orissa, Baisakhi in Punjab, Puthandu in Tamil Nadu, Poila Baishakh in West Bengal, and Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra. It is known as Vaishak, which means the festival of harvest.

The Mesha Sankranti, or Hindu New Year, is celebrated on various dates as per different cultures and regions in India.

Just like any other new year, this Hindu new year is believed to be the start of a new journey with positivity. People celebrate the solar new year by getting up early in the morning and taking a sacred bath in the holy rivers like Yamuna, Godavari, and the Ganga.

Devotees on this day prefer to eat only Satvik foods like fruits, nuts, etc. Most of them visit temples of Mahadev, Lord Hanuman, Bhagwan Vishnu, and Maa Kali to bring peace, good fortune, health, and happiness.

Usually, as per the rituals, the day of Sankranti starts with chanting mantras and slokas and offering water to the Suryadev along with Surya Namaskar.

On this day, many believe that doing good work will give them good karma, like doing charitable work by donating food, money, clothes, seva, etc. to the people who need it the most, which will give them prosperity and help them get rid of their sins.

Wearing clothes with the colours yellow and red is considered auspicious, as these two colours are the colours of the sun and are assumed to bring energy into life.

In some parts of the country, after offering their prayers, devotees drink Panna, a special drink, and distribute Prasad to everyone. Many devotees on this special day visit various sacred places like Jagannath Puri, Girija temples,Dakshinkali Temple, Siddhikali Temple, Bhairavi Temple, and many such sacred places in hopes of bringing prosperity into their lives.

The sun is the source of light that eliminates darkness and brings positivity and energy to your life. Every new year marks a new start, a new journey towards the endless possibilities.

The solar new year denotes the auspicious beginning of the Hindu new year. Which begins when the Suryadev completes its one circle that takes a year by transitioning through all the 12 zodiac signs. Let this day remove the negativity and bring the bright light that will infuse energy into your goals and dreams.
