Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and diligent follow-up are also key. My commitment to continuous learning keeps me updated on the newest advancements in gastroenterology.
Prime Insights: What are some of the most advanced diagnostic or treatment methods you currently use in gastroenterology?
In my practice, I leverage cutting-edge methods for optimal patient outcomes. For diagnosis, I frequently use endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with targeted biopsies for pancreatic and biliary issues. Capsule endoscopy, followed by enteroscopy if needed, helps visualize the small intestine. High-definition endoscopes with Narrow-Band Imaging (NBI) enhance early cancer detection. In treatment, I employ Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) for early cancers, avoiding surgery. For IBD, I use advanced biologics like anti-TNF agents and JAK inhibitors. Direct-acting antivirals have transformed hepatitis C treatment. Genetic testing guides personalized plans, especially for colorectal cancer and hereditary liver disorders.

Prime Insights: What is your vision for the future of gastroenterology in India, and how do you see yourself contributing to its advancement?
The future of gastroenterology in India holds great promise, but we also face a number of challenges. There is a growing burden of gastrointestinal diseases, with lifestyle-related conditions like IBD, fatty liver disease (MAFLD), and GI cancers (e.g., colon cancer). I see a tremendous opportunity for progress with technological advancements, increased awareness, and collaboration. I see a rise in personalized medicine, where treatments tailored to the patient’s genetics and lifestyle, and preventive care like screening colonoscopies (for colon cancer) will become key to reducing chronic gastrointestinal diseases. I see myself helping in this transformation with research, in chronic liver disease and gastrointestinal cancer, to have more effective and accessible treatment options.
I am passionate about education and mentorship, aiming to shape the next generation of gastroenterologists by working with medical institutions and participating in training programs. Technology will play a key role in improving healthcare access in India, and I believe that telemedicine, AI diagnostics, and remote patient monitoring can all help fill the gap in healthcare delivery, especially in underserved areas. I see myself contributing to public awareness initiatives about gastrointestinal health, encouraging early screening, and promoting healthier lifestyle choices across communities.
