Territorial dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan. 

  • Territorial: Nagorno-Karabakh region has 95% of the population as ethnically Armenian and is controlled by them but it is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan. Armenia and Azerbaijan are part of Transcaucasia or South Caucasia (geographical region in the vicinity of the southern Caucasus Mountains and hills on the border of Eastern Europe and Western Asia consisting of Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan).
  • Past outbreaks of fighting have killed some thirty thousand plus people since 1988. The Military and political analysts said, they have witnessed an increase in based on deployment of heavy weaponry such as rockets and artillery, bringing a higher risk of civilian casualties that would make it harder to pull the two sides back from all-out war.
  • The apart from recent clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan, two former Soviet republics, mark the latest chapter in a simmering conflict over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh that has consumed the two nations for almost three decades. Here is the two countries Turkey and Russia have also been lately engaged with in joint military drills in the Mediterranean sea which is depend on both the sides of Cyprus and had thus, silenced Greece and other European allies, particularly France and the UAE, in their ‘front’ against Turkey.  
  • Respect to this, intermittent ceasefire violations between two countries Azerbaijani and Armenian troops have caused hundreds of deaths in the past decade.And Despite the ceasefire, there were occasional flare-ups on the border. In the time of July in this year, at least 16 people were killed in clashes. After Sunday’s violence, Azerbaijan and Armenia blamed each other. Baku already said it was forced to respond after Armenian attacks killed and wounded Azeris. According to TheDefence Ministry statement the troops have captured territories from Armenian forces. 
  • About 75,000 people have been displaced in the latest escalation, the officials say. The long time-running conflict has simmered ever since the war in the 1990s, when ethnic Armenians – the majority in the territory – broke away from Azerbaijan. Thousands plus of Azeris were expelled then.

Impact on Indian economy and international relations –

  • There are many bad impacts on Indian economy due to the war. The India has supported Armenia while Azerbaijan has been supported by Pakistan. And the  reason behind it the Pakistan was the second country to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence after Turkey. And Also, the Pakistan is the only country that does not recognize Armenia as an independent state and fully supports Azerbaijan’s position.
  • it’s very important reason, that the Armenia, close relations with India are vitally important as India provides a counter balance to the rival strategic axis between Azerbaijan , and Pakistan along with Turkey. According to the international relations point of view The India’s emphasis has been on a peaceful resolution of the conflict through diplomatic negotiations. And India has every and many types of reason not to support Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity as Azerbaijan has shown scant regard for India’s territorial integrity violated by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir.
