Satya Nadella : An Indian by origin, born on August 1967, Satya Narayana Nadella is better known to us as the Indian-born appointed CEO of the Microsoft. He has succeeded Steve Ballmer to become the Microsoft CEO on February 4th 2014 and accounts one among the very few who has secured quite a range of promotions after his joining.
He once said that life is all about leadership and teamwork skills and so he always kept signing up to learn something new. Born to a family in Hyderabad, where his father was a Civil Servant of the IAS. Having completed his school, he secured a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology in 1988.
This course wasn’t that important in his life at that moment owing to the thoughts he kept in mind and so he decided to go for Electrical Engineering to discover his true passion. He later moved to the US and completed his Masters in Computer Science from Wisconsin-Milwaukee University in 1990. A few years later, he completed his MBA from the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business.
His career began at “Sun Microsystems” as a technology staff before joining Microsoft. He wanted to bring a changing impact to the world and for that, he needed three elements; talent, resistance and perseverance. Microsoft had all three of them and hence, after a short span in Sun Microsystems, he quitted the job and proceeded to a life-changing journey by joining Microsoft in 1992 as a young engineer.
Upon entering there, he led a variety of major projects including Microsoft’s shift to cloud computing and cloud infrastructures. He began working with Windows NT and along with that, he kept pursuing his Master’s Degree. He has been working there for 28 years now and from being the President of the Server and Tools Division to the Executive Vice-President of Cloud and Enterprise group, life had not been that easy.
By 1999, Satya Nadella had become the Vice-President of the “Microsft vCentral” small business service and also became the GM of the company’s Commerce Platform group. He also took part in the growth of the Microsoft Office Small Business, Microsoft Dynamics ERP and CRM products etc. He then pulled the company’s reach to technological advancements like Digital Rights Management (DRM) and Interactive Television (ITV). In the next decade, he got promoted thrice. He then became the corporate Vice-President of the Microsoft as well as the senior Vice-President of Research and Development for the Online Services Division in 2007 and finally got promoted as the Microsoft’s President of $19 billion Server and Tools Business.
Before becoming the CEO, he was the Executive Vice-President for Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group and provided online infrastructure search engines such as Bing, the Xbox Live and the Office 365. Under his leadership, the Cloud Services from made a high leap from $16.6 billion to $20.3 billion between 2011 and 2013. This made Microsoft grow faster and become the hottest business in the face of the world.
