His firm, Shayona Consultants, was felicitated with the ICI-Ultratech Outstanding Structure Award for the ‘Stepped Cube House’ in 2020. We had the opportunity to interview him about his entrepreneurial journey and the exciting advancements in the architecture industry.

Shayona Consultants is a leading architectural and interior design firm based in Ahmedabad, founded by me, Architect Prashant Parmar. With over 23 years of experience, the firm has successfully completed more than 1,300 projects across India and internationally. We specialize in delivering innovative, economical, and client-centric design solutions. Whether it’s residential spaces, commercial projects, or grand cultural campuses, we are recognized for seamlessly integrating functionality, aesthetics, and environmental harmony into every project.
Today we serve a wide range of clients, including homeowners, developers, businesses, and spiritual organizations. A notable collaboration has been with the BAPS Swaminarayan Sect, where Shayona Consultants has contributed to designing cultural and spiritual complexes selflessly that reflect deep cultural values. Such projects showcase our ability to blend tradition with contemporary design as well.
Prime Insights: How did you get the idea of starting your entrepreneurial journey through Shayona Consultants?
Shayona Consultants was born out of my passion for design and a deep-rooted desire to improve the built environment. After studying architecture at APIED and gaining hands-on experience in both architecture and interior design, I identified a unique opportunity in the market—where architectural practices could be blended with innovation and practicality. As I traveled across various states in India, I observed the diverse architectural styles that enrich our country. This journey inspired me to establish Shayona Consultants, with a vision to create impactful and timeless spaces.
Prime Insights: Talking about your journey as an entrepreneur and leader, what are the mantras you implement in real life to strike a balance between your personal and professional stints?
As a leader, I firmly believe in maintaining a disciplined routine that allows me to give balanced attention to both my professional commitments and personal life. I emphasize quality over quantity, a value I consistently strive to instill in my team as well. I encourage my team to prioritize time management, which fosters empowerment, self-reliance, and smoother operations with minimal need for micromanagement. Lastly, spending meaningful time with family and engaging in spiritual practices help me stay grounded—both of which are integral to my continuous growth as a leader.
Prime Insights: Over these years, what are the challenges you faced on your journey to success, and how did you overcome them?
One of the major challenges I faced early in my career was establishing a strong foothold in a highly competitive market. Building a solid reputation required time, perseverance, and the consistent delivery of quality work. Another significant challenge was managing budget constraints without compromising on design quality. Through innovation, adaptability, and the trust of our clients, we overcame these hurdles and built a firm that is both respected and reliable.
As the architectural and interior design landscapes continue to evolve with the advent of new tech-oriented practices, we are committed to staying ahead of the curve to serve our clients with excellence. My team and I actively engage in continuous learning by participating in industry seminars, workshops, and design expos. At Shayona Consultants, we also conduct dedicated sessions to study international design trends and adapt them in a contextually relevant manner.

Absolutely. Research and development play a vital role in shaping our design philosophy and project execution. Whether it’s experimenting with new materials, technologies, or sustainable practices, R&D enables Shayona Consultants to provide unique, effective, and future-ready solutions. It also helps in refining traditional practices to suit modern needs.

I am inspired by dignitary architects like B.V. Doshi and Louis Kahn, whose work reflects a deep respect for tradition and sustainability. From them, I have learned the importance of designing for people and places—not just for aesthetics. I also value the teachings of spiritual leaders who emphasize humility, service, and purpose.
Prime Insights: What message would you like to share with aspiring business leaders or the upcoming younger generation who hesitate to chase their dreams due to societal stereotypes?
Don’t let societal stereotypes define your path. Every great journey begins with belief in oneself. Stay true to your passion, remain persistent, and surround yourself with people who uplift you. The world needs bold dreamers who are willing to challenge the norm and create meaningful change.
