Prime Insights: What inspired you to pursue a career in dentistry, and what challenges did you face as a woman in the field?
My interest and fascination for the art of conserving teeth drove me to practice dentistry. Although the road map to the same was full of challenges, especially for me as a woman, where I always felt that I was by default looked upon as less skilled till I proved my caliber. Whether patients, colleagues, or the employers, everyone looked upon me as less promising to fulfill the need of the profession.
Prime Insights: Can you share your journey from dental school to becoming a leading dentist in India?
I started with my dental school way back in 2002, and after completing my graduation in 2007, I immediately joined one of the most renowned dental surgeons of my region to get as much clinical exposure as possible. In 2009 I started with my own dental office and practiced for about 2 years, but I didn’t want to stop there; I was fascinated to get further clinical exposure and learn more and more about my specialty. With this vision I started looking around, and with God’s grace I got an opportunity to join one of the biggest dental hospitals in India at Hyderabad. I worked there for more than 5 years, where I gained a wide experience in my field.
Since 2008, I have practiced dentistry without a pause and with a passion to excel, learn, and practice more and more, unveiling clinical mysteries and coming up with better solutions in order to benefit my patients and, at the same time, boost my confidence to perform better and better every day.
I travelled all the way to Austria and attended Bernhard Gottlieb University Clinic of Dentistry at Vienna and successfully completed my diploma and mastership in oral laser applications from the Society of Oral Laser Applications (SOLA-International). It was an amazing experience interacting with the stalwarts of laser dentistry there.
After practising for almost a decade and with the support of my professional achievements, I got an opportunity to be referred for the Fellowship in Contemporary Endodontics at D Y Patil University, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was indeed a wonderful experience studying at D. Y. Patil University, and with my ability to perform at a high standard, I was felicitated with the ‘Fellow of the Year Award’ in 2019, which really boosted my confidence, but at the same time I didn’t want to stop myself there.
In 2024, I got selected at King’s College, London, United Kingdom, for their 3-year-long MSc Endodontics program, and presently I am pursuing the same along with my clinical practice.
I always believed that dentistry is not at all apart from medical science by any means, and thereby my forte goes to working with the medical fraternity. Destined to do so, I am presently working as a full-time dental practitioner with Yashoda Super Specialty Hospitals Pvt Ltd at Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, for the last 7 years, which is one of the biggest medical facilities in this region. I am heading the Department of Oral, Dental & Maxillofacial Care there, which functions on the concept of providing comprehensive oral health care blended with all sorts of treatments under one roof.
“True leadership in healthcare is not just about mastering techniques; it’s about igniting hope, breaking barriers, and crafting every smile with compassion, precision, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
