Prime Insights: What inspired you to specialize in oncology and cancer care?
“From school, I always wanted to be a doctor. During my undergraduate studies, I explored various specialties. Post-medical degree, working in an oncology setup sparked my interest. Later, during an interview for a surgery seat, the counselor suggested oncology based on my experience, and I decided to switch.”
Prime Insights: Can you share your journey and key milestones in becoming an oncology specialist?
“My journey has been rewarding. I specialized in oncology at BHMRC Delhi. I’ve worked with major oncology chains like Fortis and HCG and in medical colleges. I established new cancer departments in hospitals and currently serve as medical director at RHL Renova Cancer Center.”

Prime Insights: What are the biggest challenges you face in oncology, and how do you overcome them?
“Seeing patients in agony, and the inability to always cure them, is a major challenge. Also, dealing with patients and families who struggle to accept the diagnosis. I overcome these by adhering to guidelines, maintaining transparency, and sharing experiences with my wife, who is also in medicine. I also spend time with my family and hobbies to de-stress.”
Prime Insights: How do you stay updated with the latest advancements in cancer treatment?
“I participate in medical conferences, often as faculty, and engage in online learning and subscriptions. Attending conferences keeps me updated on new developments.”
Prime Insights: What innovative approaches or techniques do you use in cancer care?
“In radiation oncology, I focus on bringing the latest techniques to Jaipur, like stereotactic radiosurgery and respiratory-gated radiotherapy. These treatments reduce the need for patients to travel to tier-one cities.”
Prime Insights: How do you give personalized and compassionate treatment to patients?
“We personalize treatments based on disease biology, patient health, and age. For compassion, we train our team to empathize with patients. We also have tumor board meetings where specialists work together to formulate treatment protocols.”
Prime Insights: What role do research and clinical trials play in your practice?
“Research and trials are so important for new data and changing standards of care. We analyze our data and present it at international forums like ASTRO, ESMO, and SABCS. I am also a member of the editorial board of Elsevier Scientific Publication.”
Prime Insights: How do you collaborate with other medical professionals to improve cancer treatment outcomes?
“We collaborate at conferences and through tumor board meetings, where surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, and radiologists discuss patient cases and formulate treatment plans.”

“It’s an advancing field with opportunities to help patients. It provides both professional rewards and unique challenges.”
Prime Insights: How do you keep the emotional and professional aspects of treating cancer patients balanced?
“I keep work and personal life separate. I avoid evening practices and spend time with family and hobbies. When emotionally affected, I seek solace in temples, parks, or music.”
Prime Insights: What breakthroughs in oncology do you foresee in the near future?
“Treatments will become more patient-specific, considering tumor characteristics, genetics, and biological factors beyond just cancer stages. Immunotherapy and organ preservation techniques will also advance.”
Prime Insights: How do you contribute to awareness and early detection of cancer?
“We conduct awareness talks for social groups, publish articles in newspapers, and use radio broadcasts. We focus on dispelling myths and promoting cancer vaccines and screening tests.”
Prime Insights: Can you tell us a bit about your awards and achievements in this field?
“I’ve been fortunate to receive recognition for my work in oncology. Awards like the Chikitsa Gaurav and Excellence in Oncology from the Jaipur Medical Association in 2019 and 2023, respectively, acknowledged my contributions to cancer care in this region. The Shekhawati Samman Award in 2022 and the Rajasthan Radiance Award in 2023 were also humbling acknowledgements of my commitment. Receiving the Health Champion Award from the WHWF in 2024 was a particularly meaningful recognition of my efforts in the field. These honors serve as a reminder of the importance of striving for excellence and making a positive impact in cancer care and awareness.”

“Cancer mortality rates are decreasing, and organ preservation techniques are improving. We’re also seeing advancements in stereotactic radiosurgery and immunotherapy.”

“Stay informed about cancer, its causes, and early signs. Be aware of cancer vaccines and screening tests. Early detection and prevention are crucial. Because prevention is the best cure.”
