Good Bee doesn’t limit itself to a single niche. They are a true “Integrated Marketing Agency,” helping clients in a diverse range of industries and providing a wide spectrum of services. From data-driven personalization to retail marketing and promotional merchandising, Good-Bee creates customized solutions for each client’s goals.
In our exclusive interview with Mr. Bharatt Hari, featured in Prime Insights Media’s “Top Dynamic MDs Making a Difference In 2024” edition, we delve into his journey as an entrepreneur and the secrets behind Good-Bee’s success. Learn from his insights into leadership, innovation, and navigating the ever-changing marketing landscape.

Prime Insights: Could you provide an overview of your role and responsibilities within the company?

Being the MD of a marketing agency makes me tread a fine line between guiding the team in certain circumstances while enabling them to lead themselves in other cases. As a director of Good-Bee IMS, I am responsible for what direction my team or my organization moves forward in, so I do have to have strategic planning on point and let my team take control. As long as we are on the same page, that’s good!

Prime Insights: What inspired the establishment of your department within the company?

The marketing world has seen a massive upheaval with the advent of the internet and tech advancements like Gen AI and automation. During my tenure as a product manager for a tech company, I realized there is a gap between client expectations and marketing strategy. This prompted me to start Good-Bee, where we have experienced personnel from both an enterprise and agency background, helping us bridge this gap.

Prime Insights: How do you balance your personal and professional lives, and what strategies have you found effective?

All of the work is play when you accept that work is a significant part of life. I have always pursued endeavors that have interested, challenged, and fascinated me. This has helped me keep perspective when at work, as I see it as an extension of my being and not something extra that I feel obliged to do. I also believe in being truly committed to all that I pursue. This helps me maximize both my work and personal life to the fullest!

Prime Insights: As a director, what unique challenges have you faced on your path to success, and how have you overcome them?

Half the challenges are negated thanks to the wonderful and reliable team we have at Good-Bee. They are an experienced bunch and have helped me get over minor bumps we have faced along the way. I have always looked at challenges as opportunities and have tried to focus on finding a solution rather than focusing on the problem itself.

Prime Insights: What types of stakeholders does your department primarily serve, and are there any notable clients or projects you’d like to mention?

The beauty of being an “Integrated Marketing Agency” is that there is little limit to our scope of work. We serve clients across industries for several different types of marketing services. We have partnered with several tech giants and exciting startups, both global and Indian, along the way.

Prime Insights: How do you ensure your department remains agile and adaptive to changing market dynamics and emerging trends?

I have always stressed being a lifelong learner for my team. It is absolutely necessary, especially in a world where we make rapid advancements every day, to stay updated and learn about new tech and marketing methods being used. Once you commit to never putting an end to your learning process, adapting becomes a cakewalk!

Prime Insights: How crucial is ongoing research and development within your department to drive innovation and growth?

It is absolutely necessary to keep learning and developing one’s skills, irrespective of where they are or what they do. The goal should always be to keep getting better and never be satisfied with any version of yourself as the final one.

Prime Insights: Do you believe there’s intense competition among MDs in your industry, or is there a more relaxed attitude toward it?

Competition is present in every industry, and marketing is no exception. I do not try to compete with other MDs. Instead, I try to focus on being the best MD I can be and leading my team to greater heights. I strive to keep improving, and that’s where I keep the competition with myself. I cannot speak for other MDs, but I believe healthy competition is necessary for growth, whether it be with other MDs or with oneself.

Prime Insights: How do you prioritize employee well-being, and what initiatives do you implement to foster a positive work environment?

I have always believed that keeping employee morale high is one of the best ways to boost productivity. However, this is again a fine line! One cannot be completely task-oriented as an MD, and neither can one be completely people-oriented.
It is important to lend an ear to your employees’ concerns and suggestions and see how you can address them. We at Good-Bee IMS have a free-flow work culture and ensure the employees are valued and celebrated often. However, we also instill in them a sense of accountability and ownership over their work.
Prime Insights: Who are your role models in your field, and what principles or lessons do you aim to pass on to those who look up to you?
Not strictly in my field, but I remember being awed by Steve Jobs and his marketing ability. It helped me learn the importance of presentation and was a lesson on product marketing for everyone. Another person who inspires me is former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The values propagated by him have had a deep impact on me and have motivated me to give my best in all that I do. It has also made me more conscious about my choices and their impact and has helped me make conscious decisions to make a positive impact on society and the environment.

Prime Insights: If there’s one message you’d like to convey to MD who may feel discouraged by stereotypes or barriers, what would it be?

Stereotypes are meant to be broken.

Prime Insights: What plans or initiatives does your department have in store to continue its growth and impact within the company?

Exponentially scaling our growth is definitely on the agenda! We have already made strides over the last year in terms of the versatility of the services we offer, strategic partnerships, and a wider global presence. We look to continue on this trend and ensure that we can offer our full suite of services to our customers across locations without compromising on the quality of our work.

Prime Insights: Can you share some significant milestones or achievements your department has accomplished under your leadership?

We have made several strategic partnerships to ensure a better output for clients over the last couple of years. Adding to this, we have expanded our global presence with a registered office in both Singapore and Dubai to cater to global companies across the South-Asian region. This has enabled us to work with several global brands. Besides this, we are expanding across the country as well and have now established an office in Goa, which comes with our first retail store that caters to the corporate gifting and promotional merchandise vertical.

Prime Insights: How does your department contribute to corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives or give back to the community?

We, as an organization and as individuals, have always been conscious of the kind of impact we have on our society and the environment. I run initiatives to help the less fortunate elderly as well as contribute to the education of children in need. Good-Bee as a whole has tried to uphold such values across the work we do. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome candidates from all walks of life, including specially-abled personnel. We have tried to implement sustainable choices across the board in projects we undertake. Our corporate gifting vertical places special emphasis on sustainable merchandising options. We try to do our bit across the board in whatever we do to try and make a difference every day!
