Mr. Sanjay Goyal, Managing Director at PowerMax Fitness India Private Limited, shares his journey in detail. His leadership is rooted in the values of integrity and in inspiring others to pursue their ambitions, no matter the challenges they may encounter. It was a privilege for us to feature his story under the edition of “The 10 Most Visionary Directors to Watch in 2025.”
Prime Insights: Welcome, sir. We are truly delighted to have you join us for this conversation. To begin, could you kindly provide an overview of your company, what motivated you to venture into this segment, and the range of services or offerings it provides?
Definitely so, PowerMax is a fitness brand that I built with one simple goal in mind—to make health and wellness more accessible to everyone. The idea behind starting PowerMax came over 14 years ago when I realized that quality fitness equipment in India was either far too expensive or just difficult to find. Because my passion has been fitness, I understood this market gap personally and knew there had to be a better way. So, with a small team and a big dream, I set out to change that.
Today, I’m proud to say that what started as a vision has grown into a trusted name in fitness. PowerMax has positioned itself as a reliable provider of everything from motorized treadmills and elliptical trainers to full commercial gym setups—and even massage chairs. Be it fitness enthusiasts who want to set up their workout space at home or people looking to start their gym, we provide them with high-quality fitness equipment at affordable prices.
Prime Insights: The industry you’ve chosen to begin your entrepreneurial journey in is intriguing. That being said, how do you maintain a healthy balance between your personal and professional life?
Being an entrepreneur requires taking on multiple responsibilities each day. I make it a point to invest time in my health, my family, and myself—just like I do with my business. This approach empowers me to strike the right balance between all the aspects that truly matter. Of course, having a dedicatedly working dependable, close-knit team alongside us also plays a significant role in helping me stay grounded.
Prime Insights: As the managing director, could you share your journey of overcoming challenges and achieving measurable success along the way?
Every managing director has their story, but if there’s one thing we all share, it’s the struggle—the uncertainty, the sacrifices, and the need to keep pushing forward. For me, what truly defined the journey was the persistence it took to build trust in a market where fitness was still in its early stages. It was challenging to create space and spread awareness among our audience, educating them about the importance of quality-driven and long-lasting fitness equipment. There were setbacks, of course, but our entire team kept showing up—with consistency and commitment.
Prime Insights: What are your views on the changing market trends in the fitness industry?
The fitness industry is moving fast, and if you’re not perceptive about the incoming advancements, you’re left behind. I make it a point to stay tuned in—to what our customers are saying, what’s trending globally, and where tech is heading. Our R&D and design teams play a giant role in this. They don’t just help us keep up—they help us stay one step ahead. It’s what lets us innovate in a way that’s both smart and sustainable. Without that focus on R&D, you’re just repeating what’s already been done.
Prime Insights: Do you feel managing directors today face equal competition, or is there an ‘it’s okay’ attitude to it?
Competition today is fierce, and honestly, there’s no space for complacency. The “it’s okay” mindset just doesn’t cut it anymore. As a managing director myself, I’ve realized that you have to keep evolving—whether it’s in how you lead or how you adapt to the market’s changing needs. We have a larger role to play in nurturing innovation within the work environment. We have to take everyone forward through values of integrity, curiosity, and the audacity to keep experimenting.
Prime Insights: At How necessary do you feel it is to keep your employees content, and how do you ensure it?
PowerMax takes the well-being and satisfaction of its employees with utmost seriousness. I genuinely believe that a motivated, content team is the foundation of a strong brand—and that’s precisely what has made PowerMax what it is today.
To understand their professional needs, we conduct regular feedback sessions. This gives them the space to share their perspectives with transparency and freedom. We also encourage continuous learning and ensure that their performance is rewarded fairly. At the end of the day, every team member should feel heard, valued, and empowered to grow with us.
Prime Insights: Who are your idols when it comes to entrepreneurial motivation and inspiration?
I admire visionary leaders like Ratan Tata and Bill Gates for their empathy and long-term vision in the business ecosystem. They are exemplary figures who have built their businesses on the pillars of discipline, integrity, and a fearless hunger for taking risks.
Prime Insights: For the coming years, what are the plans or projects your company is working on? If you could share a brief overview of your vision, that would be wonderful to hear.
We’re really excited about what’s next. We’re taking PowerMax to more countries, strengthening our D2C presence, and doubling down on smart, IoT-powered fitness gear. At the same time, we’re going to focus on energy efficiency and building more fitness facilities and gyms across India. We want people to see, feel, and truly connect with the brand up close.
Prime Insights: How are you giving back to society (CSR)?
We actively promote fitness awareness by organizing public workout sessions and educational drives. We’ve also partnered with local organizations to encourage the youth of today as well as older generations to get involved in yoga or marathons or to stay active and exercise more often. And of course, eco-friendly practices in packaging and product development are definitely a must.
Prime Insights: What message do you want to give to budding/upcoming entrepreneurs who are navigating the initial challenges of their journey?
An entrepreneur always has two things: a dream and the passion to build a reliable business around that dream—one that adds real value to people’s lives. Dreams are deeply personal; they don’t need validation from what others think. If you’ve chosen this path for yourself, you must fuel your potential to face challenges with confidence.
For those who fear stereotypes, remember—they are built on fear and limitations. If you’re building something with passion and purpose, no stereotype should have the power to stop you.
Prime Insights: Thank you, Mr. Sanjay Goyal, for taking the time to speak with us today. As we come to the close of this insightful conversation, we’d love for you to share a final message or any valuable advice for the readers of Prime Insights.
Thank you for having me. It’s been a pleasure to be part of this collaboration and to have the opportunity to share my entrepreneurial journey with young learners and aspiring entrepreneurs. To me, success isn’t just about what you achieve—it’s about who you become in the process. The lessons you learn through the highs and lows shape your character in meaningful ways. That said, it’s equally important to prioritize your personal health and well-being.
As a leader or entrepreneur, you should always support your team and remain true to the purpose you started with. At the end of the day, you need to dream big—and have the courage to truly go after it.
